Drew Lock's Contract Incentives At Stake As Giants Face QB Crisis

Lock, acquired in a trade from the Denver Broncos in August 2022, has failed to impress in his Giants debut. Through three games, he has completed only 56.2% of his passes for 614 yards, with four touchdowns and two interceptions. His quarterback rating of 78.4 is the lowest among all NFL starters.

Lock's contract with the Giants includes several performance-based incentives. According to ESPN's Field Yates, Lock can earn an additional $2.5 million if he reaches certain statistical thresholds, including passing for 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns.

The Giants' quarterback situation is a major concern for the organization. The team has invested heavily in Lock, but his current performance puts those investments in jeopardy. Team officials have expressed disappointment with Lock's play and are considering alternative options.

"We need Drew to step up and play better," said Giants head coach Brian Daboll. "We're not getting the production we expected from him right now."

"It's a tough situation for Drew," said Giants general manager Joe Schoen. "We brought him here to be our starter, but he needs to show us that he can handle the job."

The Giants face a difficult schedule in the coming weeks, with matchups against the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Baltimore Ravens on the horizon. Lock's performance in these games will be crucial in determining his future with the franchise.

If Lock continues to struggle, the Giants may be forced to explore other options at quarterback, including free agent Colin Kaepernick or veteran Nick Mullens, who was recently cut by the Broncos.
